What is laboratory research showing us about vitamins? The most profound changes in nutritional medicine have occurred in the 90's.
1. August 19, 1992-Journal of the American Medical Association recommend vitamin
supplements as a way to prevent atherosclerosis and heart disease.
2. July 1992 - Nutrition Reviews is known as the Bible by researchers in nutrition.
Nutrition Reviews states, "It is impossible to get sufficient vitamins from our
degraded food supply", and then criticizes the FDA for failing to allow companies to tell the
public how vitamins prevent cancer.
3. May 1993 - New England Journal of Medicine-Two studies showing how high doses of
Vitamin E (not RDA) significantly reduce heart disease and strokes in both men and
women. The reports added that it is impossible to get sufficient Vitamin E from our food
and made it clear the need for vitamin supplementation.
4. 1993- New England Journal of Medicine reports that 89,000 nurses taking higher doses of
Vitamin A (30% above the RDA) have significantly less risk of breast cancer.
5. 1996- Lancet: Researchers at Cambridge University find that patients with advanced
coronary artery disease were able to cut their risk in half (50%) if they take 400-800
IU of Vitamin E per day.
6. 1996- American Journal of Epidemiology reports that Folic acid, Calcium and
antioxidant vitamins lower the risk of colon cancers, e.g.
(a.) women able to reduce colon cancer by 60%.
(b.) men able to reduce colon cancer by 65%.
7. 1996- Researchers at the National Institute on Aging Bethesda Maryland reported that in a
study of 11,000 people, proper Vitamin E usage is associated with a 22% decrease in
cancer deaths, a 41% decrease in heart disease, and a 27% decrease in deaths by any
cause.
8. 1997- Journal of Family Practice reports that taking folic acid not only reduces the risk
of neural tube defects by 45%, but it also reduces the levels of homocysteine in the
blood. (Remember - homocysteine increases the risk of heart disease.)
.
9. 1996-Journal of the American Medical Association: A study reveals that all cancers
(except melanoma) are reduced by 45% with Selenium supplementation. (This is a remarkable
finding that has had little news coverage!)
These are just a sampling of the main stream journals which show that nutrition can help prevent a wide range of degenerative diseases. Read the medical reviews that have been cited here and judge for yourself. I guarantee that they will convince you to take care of your patients/yourself with proper supplementation. |
